A fresh Gemini update brings Google Maps data to life with richer, more visual results
Today Google is releasing an upgrade to the Gemini app that enhances how information from the Google Maps extension is shown. In the past, prompts that called up Google Maps produced mostly text, ending with a simple map view that highlighted the locations Gemini identified using pins.
Now, Gemini can present local results in a vivid, image-first format, offering photos, ratings, and real-world details. In Google’s example, the map takes center stage, featuring emoji-style pins that help distinguish places more clearly.
Each location is paired with a card that includes an image and a star rating, followed by the rest of the response. Google demonstrated that you can tap to view cards for:
- People talk about most
- Review summary
- Tips from reviewers
These are Gemini-generated summaries of Google Maps reviews, with the full Maps app recently adding a similar feature for place listings (see the linked coverage).
This Google Maps update is rolling out now to the Gemini app on both desktop and mobile, in English.
