Imagine the frustration: You turn the key, ready to go, but your car refuses to start. Now, picture that happening to dozens of people, all because of bad gas. That's exactly what happened to customers of Gas N Go on Vancouver Island.

Gas N Go, a local gas station chain, is facing a wave of complaints – approximately 30 in total – after customers reported their vehicles were damaged by contaminated fuel purchased in Buckley Bay on December 18th and 19th. The owner has stated he intends to 'make it right' for those affected.

One of the affected customers is Denman Island resident, Shirley Ward. On December 20th, her nearly-new 2025 Mazda wouldn't start. After a tow and a visit to the mechanic, the diagnosis was clear: water in the fuel. The repair cost nearly $1,000, and the couple was back on the road.

But here's where it gets controversial... Ward traced the issue back to a fill-up at Gas N Go in Buckley Bay on December 19th, just before her ferry trip home. Her husband, Bill Peters, echoed her concerns, stating they wanted to understand the cause of the problem.

"I understand there’s dozens of people on the island and in Union Bay that had similar problems with on the 18th and 19th of December,” Ward said.

Social media quickly confirmed the scale of the problem, with numerous complaints surfacing on local Facebook pages. Ward, seeking reimbursement for the tow, repair, and a rental car (totaling around $1,200), reached out to Gas N Go and its owner, the Wayne Procter Group.

Ward's niece, Susan Weseen, expressed her surprise at the lack of immediate response from Gas N Go.

The owner of Gas N Go, Wayne Procter, explained to CHEK News that the issue stemmed from the ethanol content in the fuel. He mentioned that the issue has been resolved, and they are implementing preventative measures. He also stated that they have received approximately 30 complaints.

Procter acknowledged the slow response, potentially due to the Christmas holidays, but assured that they are working to rectify the situation for everyone. Regarding Shirley Ward's complaint, Procter indicated that her reimbursement should be processed soon.
