Fetty Wap's Early Release: A New Chapter for the Rapper (2026)

In a surprising turn of events, rapper Fetty Wap has been granted an early release from federal prison, almost three years after being convicted for his involvement in cocaine distribution. Known for his hit song "Trap Queen," Fetty Wap, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, was sentenced to six years in prison and five years of supervised release by a New York court back in May 2023.

Recently, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed to CNN that Fetty Wap was transferred from the Federal Correctional Institution in Sandstone, Minnesota, to a community confinement facility on January 7, 2026. This transfer marks a significant step in his journey toward rehabilitation.

Currently, he is under home confinement, as verified by his publicist, and is expected to be released from this arrangement on November 8 of this year. Fetty expressed heartfelt gratitude towards all his supporters through a statement shared with CNN, saying, "I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support — it truly means everything to me."

He emphasized his intentions moving forward, stating that he aims to give back to the community through various initiatives aimed at aiding at-risk youth. His focus will be on improving access to education, technology skills, and vision care for young children, ensuring they have the opportunities to thrive.

Fetty's publicist, Abesi Manyando, noted that he is in good spirits, feeling focused and grounded. "His priorities are his family, fatherhood, music, and contributing positively to his community," she said. During his time in prison, Fetty gained valuable insights on the importance of being intentional in creating pathways for success, especially for vulnerable young people.

The rapper was initially arrested in New York City in October 2021, facing serious drug trafficking conspiracy charges alongside five co-defendants. After pleading not guilty, he was released on a $500,000 bond the following month but had his bond revoked in August 2022. Prosecutors claimed he breached the conditions of his release by allegedly brandishing a firearm and threatening another individual during a FaceTime call.

In August 2022, Fetty Wap ultimately pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges related to the possession and distribution of over 500 grams of cocaine.

With his recent shift to home confinement, many are curious about what this means for his future in music and community work. Will he successfully transition back into the industry while also making a positive impact on the lives of young people? Share your thoughts below!
